These two terms are interchangeable: They mean the same thing. You might also hear “activate” or “programming”.
Some find these terms offensive when speaking of crystals, because they feel that it carries the concept of crystals as tools rather than as companion beings.
The process of cleaning, we release all unwanted vibrations from our items, i.e., all energy designs that intentionally or unintentionally have been stored there. Charging of items, is a process of placing the types and qualities of energy we would like within our items.
Sunlight re-charges items with the properties of the Sun.
Moonlight charges things with the energies of the Moon.
Both automatically cleanse the item too.
Some people say that items, particularly crystals can be “sleepers” and needs to know it is going to be used for healing or meditative purposes or whatever. They say they need to be “activated” I don’t really buy into this. It is not asleep. It may not be actively doing what you want it to do yet but it is not asleep. Its consciousness does not depend on you making contact with it. It is already there. YOU may need to connect with it, but it knows what it is.
Now, this is not to say that you don’t need to build a rapport with the item because you do. Different items require different “handling”. If this is an item you have made you scratch, then you are its “parent” and already have a rapport. If this is an item you purchased, you need to cleanse it and charge it. You need to cleanse it because it might be “programmed” by someone else to do things you do not want or even may have just picked up energies from different people/places you do not want.
Cleansing DOES NOT remove any “programming” a natural item “grew” with. Like Elestial crystals.
Charging happens in several ways. Some are slow, some are complicated, some are neither. Depending on what the item will be used for can dictate how you charge it.
Sleeping with the item beings to build a rapport with it. Bathing with it will also. Offering it herbs, along with your intent in how you wish to use the item builds trust between you. Your gut will tell you whether or not the item “wants” to be used in that way or sometimes will tell you much more.
There is a” blank database” in each crystal which has the ability to store new instruction. i.e. your intention.
Crystals for instances, sometimes have a “mission” their “life’s purpose”. Sometimes, it is to provide a grounding force on the planet, maybe working energetically with other crystals in the earth to provide a network of stable energy across the planet as part of the physical matrix of the planet.
Sometimes, the crystal will carry a specific energy signature by resonating tones, colors and other vibrations that are provided through compassionate forces for humans and other life forms on Earth.
Crystal people sometimes say that a crystal resonates for a particular chakra, or has a mission to "clear a past life" for instance.
If what you want goes against that, it will not work as well or at all than if you had one that was more in line with your wishes. Sometimes, the purpose is simply to be a vessel and all kinds of charging will take.
1) A simple method is writing a thought on a piece of paper then placing the item on top to absorb the thought energy.
2) Hold the crystal and direct your intent deep inside it. if you feel resistance, stop.
3) Another method is to create a circular breath by holding the thought of what you desire in your mind and then breath slowly and naturally through your nose into the item and then breath energy back in from the item. Repeat this circular breath for 9 times.
You can put as many thoughts, affirmations or items such as holographic images into your crystal.
For increasing vitality and energizing, it could be a good idea to put your crystal in sea water during high tide, and vice versa, for relaxation and rest put the crystal in sea water during low tide.
Charge items with sound by using a bell, singing bowl or singing/chanting your intention.
charge an item by drumming around it.
Charge your item by Dancing with it.
Charging empowering, is simply putting your intention- what you want the item to do- within the item.
You can use stones and crystals to charge things with the energy inherent in the stones/crystals.
You can use a grid to charge items. Take a group of quartz crystals (4 to 9 or more) and point them inward in a circle. Put your item in the center, and leave it there to charge for 24 hours or more.
Burial: This method is good for grounding items in particular. Bury the item in the ground for a week or more to charge it. This can also clear unwanted energies at the same time. Be sure when you bury your item that you mark the area so you know where to find it .
Holding them item and visualize and put the intention into the stone by moving your energy into to it.
Sexual energy can be used to charge an item.
Exercise:
Hold the item in your right-hand (left hand for those of you who are lefties).
Visualize a door within the heart of the crystal. Until this visualization is firm and steady, wait. Then open the door. Behind it you should see a store of diffuse energy, which varies with the type of the crystal. Note the color and how it looks, feels. what you see/feel. Close the door. Thank the crystal.
